Drawing: Fort Langley

Drawing: Shackled Barn

Last summer, a couple of my Dutch friends came to visit me here in Canada. While showing them around, I heard shrieks from the back seat directed at a big red barn we were driving past.

"SO CUTE! So Canadian! A barn - It's even red. Can we stop and take pictures?!"

And, there were plenty more barns to come. It was the easiest tour, ever.

Remember My Forgotten Man

Taking the piano up again, my mum proudly pushed over a big box filled with piano music. To my surprise, majority of them weren't my my sticker-filled and fairly crisp children piano books. They were coffee stained, yellowing books and pages of antique piano music, offhandedly assigned to my grandmother.

This lovely song was among them.

Oregon Drive

The best thing about Oregon, in my open, are the millions of second-hand, thrift, antique stores.

But the SECOND best thing are all the booths along the side of the road that sell a variety of crap. This photograph was taken at a stand that advertised 'salmon jerky' (we simply had to stop). However, we left with a cherry pie. I guess too many tourists craved the jerky.

Cycle of Life

I was watching Planet Earth with my dad (you can never get enough), and realized that most of the episodes naturally fall into the Predator vs. Preditee narrative.

So of course, I grabbed the nearest fuzzy stickers to illustrate. David Attenborough, eat your heart out.

Grandma Finch Breakfast

I look after two kids (a brother and a sister) a few times a week, and they recently revealed their Grandma Finch breakfast recipe...

Peanut butter and lettuce on toast. I used lettuce from the garden and it was nice and crispy. All I'll say is, I didn't eat just once piece...

Some shots from when I was out riding around town, looking for some inspiration. Welcome to my hood.

Hasel Photograph

This is a great image of the classic, American diner. Christina Hasel photographs rural images on the Northern East coast of the United States...

Zona Nudista

On the drive up to Roses, Spain, my mom and I stopped for a much needed coffee break. We sit down and order our cortados, on a wooden patio in the middle of the beach.

It took mere minutes to notice we were being paraded by a very skinny, very nude man sporting a leather motorcycle hat and big black leather boots... not to mention some terrible tattoos. He walked to the left of the coffee shack, swayed from side to side, before strolling to the other side of us and swaying some more. He continued this casual cycle for the fifteen minutes we sat there - like a Sims character waiting for directions.

One one side of the coffee shack, my mother would be giggling and blushing, and when he got to the other side, I'd be snorting my coffee through my nose. I don't have a problem with the nakedness, but I think the swaying got to me. That, and his bored demeanor.

Our Spanish is pretty crappy, but looking back, we could have guessed what Zona Nudista meant...

Boulangerie

Carcassonne, June 2011
On the panting walk up to the medieval town of Carcassonne, we passed this storefront in a run-down alleyway... Even the abandoned, dirty French bakeries are charming.
